Pen and Ink Drawings – I drew these ink drawings by hand on hot press illustration board and bristol board. I use a Koh-I-Noor No. 127 ‘Made in Germany’ nib holder with a Speedball 22B nib crow quill pen. In the interest of time, I have begun to use Mars Staedtler Pens felt tip pens. They allow me to draw more for a given amount of time. I love the crow quills but if I’m adding ink to my nib once a minute, I’m only drawing for about 30 minutes for each hour that I am “drawing”. With the Mars Staedtler pens, there is no running out of ink. However, the feel is different. Unfortunately, you can’t control the thickness of the line with pressure using your wrist and hand but time is money. I also use Crescent Hot Press Illustration Boards for ink drawings. Sometimes I’ll use a hot press or smooth Strathmore Bristol Board to draw on.
